A Certified Golden Cup Technician (GCT) is a coffee professional representing not only his/her own company in the field, but also representing the SCAA. It is imperative that at all times a GCT delivers outstanding customer service in a friendly and professional way to those who seek the analysis and advice of a GCT.
A Certified GCT should be prepared to conduct Golden Cup upon request. A GCT may be called upon to analyze the brews at locations of his/her own company, wholesale customers, or customers of a competing vendor. In all cases, any disclosure of conflict of interest is important.
As the Golden Cup program is a SCAA program, GCTs should caution against any behavior that could be considered restraint of trade. In anti-trust law, any activity (including agreements among competitors or companies doing business with each other) that tends to limit trade, sales and transportation in interstate commerce or has a substantial impact on interstate commerce can be considered restraint of trade. Most of these actions are illegal under the various anti-trust statutes. Some state laws also outlaw local restraints on competitive business activity.(1) A GCT may disclose conflict of interest and remove him/herself from consideration to certify a given location if this conflict of interest would prevent it; restraint of trade would apply to behavior that actively impedes any location from becoming certified.
Overall, GCTs should act in a professional manner and strive to use good judgment, representing his/her company, the Golden Cup program, and SCAA with excellence.
I understand that by completing the curriculum for this Pathway and passing the exam(s), I will receive an assessment-based certificate, not a specific job certification. By passing the exams, I have met the SCAA’s job-related competencies and educational standards that represent industry best practices, protocols, and standards as defined by SCAA.
I have read the above guide of conduct and agree to uphold these standards.
